Emily is a proud first-generation graduate of San Francisco State University and a photojournalist at The Kansas City Star.
Her parents, who came to the U.S. as migrants, taught her the importance of perseverance, hard work, and chasing her dreams.
As a proud Latina, Emily believes her cultural background allows her to bring a unique perspective to her work and to represent her culture in a positive light.
When she’s not behind the camera, she can usually be found eating tacos, drinking matcha lattes, or watching baseball (when it’s in season). Most of the time, though, she’s either out for a run or relaxing on the couch with a book, surrounded by cat hair.
Emily hopes to encourage and motivate others like her to pursue their dreams fearlessly.
